There are over 8,000,000 non-fatal injuries and 19,000 fatal injuries in the US each year caused by unintentional falls. Most falls (60%) are what are called same level falls, simply put, slipping on or tripping over something on the floor. The three most common causes of fall for which you can apply anti slip floor treatment are:
Good house-keeping (both at home and in the work environment) will help prevent the first two most common causes, but treacherous footing on wet or slippery surfaces can only be solved by improving the Coefficient of Friction of the floor. (The technical term used to measure the effectiveness of a non-slip surface.)
All of us have slipped and fallen or slipped and almost fallen on wet or slippery floors. It is very disconcerting when you are walking along on a stable surface an suddenly one foot goes flying in an unexpected direction or you find yourself airborne and headed for a rough landing.
The majority of the time we come away with a bruise or pulled muscle but 15 times each minute, someone in the United States is injured in the same type of fall.
The most effective thing you can do is to make sure those beautiful tile, slate, vinyl tile, concrete or marble floors you had installed to beautify your bathroom, kitchen or pool surround are treated to reduce or eliminate the worry about slipping on a wet surface like when you get out of the tub the shower or the pool.
The truth is kitchens and bathrooms are the rooms where the floors are most likely to have water, soap, or oil on them. Most importantly these rooms are also filled with counters, islands, faucets, tables, tubs, and glass shower enclosures all of which will contribute to both your chance of injury and how serious those injuries may be.
And the story gets worse. As the baby boomer generation hits the age of 65 and beyond, the statistics tell us that fully a third of all people over that age will suffer a slip and fall accident. The odds of serious injury increase dramatically the older we get. So don’t let yourself or your parent become a statistic.
